Preliminary Task: Front Cover Texual Analysis

Conotations

On this magazine front cover I can conote that the subject may be sucessfull I can deduce this through the books he is weilding 'Law Business and Society' these subjects connote success as there professions often offer big sums of money. The chain and leather jacket also extend this connotation as they are often portrayed to people as wealth or objects of the wealthy. As the subject is black, black people could be the target audience and also black people who want to be sucessful.

The magazine Uses a lot of yellow this is most likely because the colour yellow is optimistic and proves to grab the most attension as it is one of the hardest colours to take in.

Dentoations

The magazine cover consists of a colour photograph of a ma looking directly at us. The camera shot is a medium long shot as we see the subjects head, arms and waist. He is standing up with one hand in his pocket in the shot. The backgroud of the photogrph is black with a lighter spot at the top of the image. The photgraph of the subject cover the majority of the magazine cover. Behind the subjects head is the 'College' Masthead, and in front of him are eight different cover-lines in white and yellow. The photgrphed man's name in white under the biggest cover line. a bar code is visible in the bottom left of the screen.

Character & Composition

The character is a successful Dancehall Deejay. He is posed a very sucessful casual business man.

Costume

The costume he is wearing is a leather jacket, which he is wearing on top of a white tee, assecorised with a big chain.

Induction: Movie Poster Texual Anaylsis

I analyised this poster of Indiana jones and found many things, first of all Indiana Jones who seems to be the main Protagonist, as he is centered in the image, seems to be standing like 'An action figuire' who is ready to save the dayand be the hero. I can denote that he is clenching his fists, has a gun at his side and is weilding his iconic whip showing to the target audience that this film will be a Action & Adventure film.

Futhermore, we can see the font of 'Indiana Jones' which mimics the colour of the the skull and fire connoting he is dangerous and a force to be reckoned with if opposed. The Fire in the background which seems to be infused with a skull showing and highlighting the theme of Death which can crop up into the movie as it is bodly shown. The font and the way it is elasticated can suggest it maybe family friendly. Indiana Jones has a broad posture and is standing infront of the flames unfazed showing he is brave.

The characters Non-Verbal communication is fierece, so i can depict that he is likely to be fierce and strong. The tile of Indiana Jones is in san-serif poseing it may be modern but this is contrastiong the image of the carvings which suggest old and history. The contrast supports the fact that he is a history teacher who looks for hidden treasure in history. e.g. The crystal skull also known as the 'Rock Crystal' made in the 19th century but is now kept in a museum.

The characters clothes are dirty with the help of the setting this allows me to configure that Indiana Jones in relentless and adventurus as he probably goes into hell and back as he ventures to try and find the crystal skull.

In conclucution I found Out there is a lot from a movie that one can deduce, and that things are put into the movie posters for a reason to give the target audience a field of vision into a portion of the atmosphere of the whole movie.

Induction: Re-Creation of creation of a Movie Magazine

I found this task quite challeging as I have used photoshop before to make things such as background, but i've not used it up to this extent, but having attempted to copy this magazine I have been introduced to useful skills such as changing the contrast, transforming Fonts which allowed me to almost mimic the orginal magazine font. Photshop allowed me to raterize text which enabled be to cut certain parts of the font to copy the original most parts of this was succesful. I applied a drop shadow to some of the text making it more eye cathing since some of the text seemed to blend in with the mag. I used the shape tools so that I could try and mask behind images. As the original my subheading did not get in the way of the subject as I alligned it properly.

Overall this task was useful and I feel that it helped me with my photshop skills as I found out things I did not use in the past.
